Creative Integrative Medicine
A Medical Doctor’s Journey toward a New Vision for Health Care
Perfect Bound Softcover
A family tragedy—the loss of his youngest brother at age eighteen from an osteosarcoma of the skull—triggered Dr. Drouin’s interest in studying medicine. Unsatisfied with the model of healing he encountered in medical school, he explored many other models of medicine that eventually led him to practice what is now called integrative medicine. He soon realized that for these complementary medicines to be accepted and integrated into our health care system, they must be scientifically recognized and become part of the curriculum in medical schools.
The entire foundation of our approach to health and disease must be redefined through a deeper understanding of reality as described by quantum physics. Dr. Drouin’s initial quest has evolved into the creation of a medical and natural medicine curriculum that embraces this new paradigm of healing and the foundation of the International Quantum University for Integrative Medicine (Quantum University).
The cost of an incomplete model of understanding in medicine has enormous consequences in the management of chronic and mind-related disease. Creative integrative medicine addresses the real questions and offers a solution to the present crisis in health care.
“Dr. Paul Drouin is a true hero for writing this long overdue book. Finally, people are being told the truth about health, healing, and alternative treatments. This book has sound scientific proof to empower you back to true ‘health’ care instead of ‘sick’ care. Read and learn.”

This book is a story about my own journey as a medical doctor toward a model for Integrative Medicine. It is about my passion to promote changes in the healthcare system and medical schools that will lead to a greater understanding of the true nature of the human being and assist us in reaching our greatest potentiality through healing on all levels.
My journey as a medical doctor in Western medicine began over forty years ago in Québec, Canada. My path to becoming a medical doctor was sparked by a traumatic event in my own life. As a teenager, I witnessed my brother suffering with intense headaches which continued to be misdiagnosed and left untreated as he visited several different doctors and specialists.
While in medical school and in the early days of my own family practice, I began to see the limitations of conventional Western medical approaches, not only in the areas of diagnosis and treatment of patients, but also in how a patient was viewed and how the greater issues of pain and suffering were left unaddressed. Deep within I felt there was a better way. This led me on an ongoing journey of discovery as I explored alternative medical traditions such as Ayurvedic Medicine, Taoist Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Auriculotherapy, Naturopathy, Mind-Body Medicine, emerging diagnostic techniques in dark field microscopy, and Kirlian photography. As I learned new modalities, I incorporated them into my family practice alongside conventional medical procedures – creating my own form of integrative family medicine practice. During this process I began formulating a holistic view of the patient and looked at their potentiality for wellness, rather than focusing solely on their physical symptoms of disease.
Patients were very responsive to this approach and I grew a successful family practice, primarily through referrals. I was able to treat a large number of patients who had not found satisfactory assistance within the conventional Western healthcare system. However, as peers began to learn of my work with complementary and alternative medicine, it was criticized as being non-scientific and not something that was taught in medical school.
Although many studies have evaluated the benefits of these alternative modalities, the conventional medical system and medical schools have been slow to adopt, integrate and train medical doctors in these alternative therapies and approaches to healing. The primary argument that has been given is the lack of scientific basis, or lack of scientific explanation for how or why these modalities work.
Science defines the premise upon which our understanding of reality is based. Traditionalists have declared that conventional Western medicine is the only scientific medicine. The current medical system is based upon a materialistic model incorporating Darwinist theories of evolution, Newtonian physics, chemistry, and physical (elementary particle level) anatomy and physiology. However, through explorations and observations of the behavior of particles at the subatomic level, science has evolved. Fifty years ago, quantum physics emerged as a new scientific standard and model of understanding of reality. It has revolutionized our society on many levels, sparking discussion of science vs. spirituality/consciousness; transforming the core of our society.
In my own practice I saw for myself how effective an integrative approach to medicine could be, and began searching for the scientific proof of why these modalities worked. I discovered the explanation through the science of quantum physics, which I believe, can serve as the new scientific foundation for a truly integrative medicine. One which combines both Western and Alternative medicine systems and traditions, based on a platform of understanding of the new scientific reality as defined by quantum physics. Quantum physicist Amit Goswami, PhD, has already laid out the theoretical foundation for this approach in his book, The Quantum Doctor, a physicist's guide to health and healing.
By redefining a form of medicine based on the new scientific model of understanding of the universe according to quantum physics, not only will the key to solving the current healthcare crisis be provided, but it will also lead to a new vision of integrative healthcare based not on disease but on the full potentiality of the individual. Our understanding of the human body will expand to include the body's subtle energy systems and mental and emotional connections to the physical body. How the mind works will be explored from a non-dualistic viewpoint, compared to the dualistic philosophy used today. It will open the door to creative new approaches to healing that have the opportunity to solve problems still unresolved by conventional medicine, specifically in the areas of chronic and degenerative diseases.
The curriculum I’ve developed for Holistic, Natural, and Integrative medicine at the university I founded in 2007 – the International Quantum University for Integrative Medicine (www.iquim.org) – already incorporates this paradigm of understanding of reality based on the science of quantum physics and how it can be applied to healing. It is my hope that this book serves to inspire healthcare practitioners, the general public, or anyone having to deal with health issues and provides a foundation for other universities to transition to a new model for medical education.
By reading about my own personal journey as a medical doctor who has already explored and successfully integrated aspects of alternative natural healing practices and evaluation techniques into my own practice, other doctors will be shown options, through anecdotal case examples, as to how conventional and natural medicine approaches can be successfully combined to provide the best outcome for the patient. They will see how quantum physics provides the scientific basis for describing how other systems of healing work, as well as opening the door to a new level of understanding of human anatomy, biology, evolution, and the connection between mind, body, spirit, and consciousness. It will educate doctors and other healthcare practitioners across all disciplines, and inform lay individuals as to the expanded role we can all play in empowering ourselves to heal and heal others.
