When Harlan Fisher was eight years old, he started hearing and talking to what he now calls the Voice because that is exactly what it is, an inner voice that he hears and communicates with continuously. The Voice is an informative and inspirational journey into the discovery of your inner voice and how to listen to your higher energy self. One of the major objectives of the book is to help you identify with all the elements surrounding the concept of hearing an inner voice, just as many famous people have throughout their lives. The book begins with a description of two eight-year-old boys and their encounters with a Voice. The anecdotes help the book read like a novel, even though it is nonfiction and includes all the self help attributes that individuals need to achieve the requirements necessary to discover their own higher energy self. Furthermore, the book reveals a scientific and metaphysical enlightenment that is occurring throughout the world with new ideas that are gaining speed with every new discovery. Part Two teaches techniques to help us listen to the Voice and the importance of understanding how we learn. This section goes into specific detail on how we can remain flexible thinkers and adapt to continuous change. Part Three clarifies the practical information we need to tap into our higher selves and avoid important stumbling blocks in our lives, such as social stigma, fear of the unknown, labeling, education, religion, and mental illness. With the knowledge you attain up to this point, you will be able to translate the various techniques the voice may use to communicate to you. The numerous stories in the book give you variations of what to expect when communicating with the Voice.
What if I told you that the secret to happiness, peace, and success at the highest level could be found in an eight-year-old boy who talks to himself? What if I presented the same offer, but from a different source—a college professor with degrees and expertise in multiple disciplines including psychology, education, and business? What if I told you they were one and same? Derived from both my formal educational training and my own personal experiences, my creative nonfiction book, THE VOICE, is designed to show anyone how to discover a higher energy self, achieve a pure-thought stage, and harness the natural human insight that we all possess. Introduction “Harlan.” “Yes, who is there?” (No answer) “Hello, who is there?” (Still no answer) I began to laugh at myself, because once again I was surprised by the Voice. The Voice that I hear so clearly and distinctly always sounds like another person is in the room talking to me. On this day, the Voice said, “Harlan, we have a lot of work to do tonight.” I was eight years old when I first started talking with the Voice, and ever since that first event, we have had a continuous dialogue. Sometimes, the Voice starts suddenly and other times it shocks or surprises me. On many occasions it simply guides me throughout the continuous events that are occurring in my life without my even knowing what is happening. In this book, you will find examples about various events that have occurred throughout my life involving the Voice. These stories are purposely positioned in the chapters to help you begin to develop your own association and understanding about similar events that might have occurred in your life. This will help you begin to create a different perception about life. You can use these examples to make comparisons about your life’s experiences so that you, also, can begin to gain the knowledge necessary to hear your own Voice. I call it the Voice because that is exactly what it is, a voice that I hear and communicate with constantly. The Voice is our higher energy self and is a true human experience. However, several religious people have tried to convince me that it is my spirit I am hearing. A spirit is something that comes from God and is more of an animating force within living beings. Also, covered in this book is a detailed description of animal instincts and intuitions. Evolution has programmed the animal world to act automatically in certain ways under certain conditions. Humans have lost a good bit of these programmed responses because we each have an ego that places our responses on hold until we have had time to reflect and construct a non-programmed response. We need to transgress and explore what animals still have and what we have lost in the way of our natural instincts. The book goes into great detail to show you how the Voice should be functioning in your life. Ultimately, you should be able to recognize the Voice and what transpires. Many people would call this a metaphysical experience. By metaphysical I mean beyond science, or simply put, something you cannot see but you know exists. Although I believe that what you hear is not really a metaphysical happening, it is easier to refer to it as such. Logically, you have confirmed by observation that the event you were involved in is your reality. Hearing the Voice, therefore, is different from having a belief or faith. The Voice is an absolute knowing. Throughout the book I use the term “knowing” as a noun because it serves as a condition, a focus, a deep perception. If this sounds complicated, it probably is right now, but after reading the book, you will have a clearer picture. Consider carefully the following statement: “We do not have any other choice but to learn about life through our human experiences.” In fact, our lives are all about gaining knowledge, which is very similar to learning math, reading, or any subject. Perhaps it would be better to explain that life is like studying a subject. Think for a moment --- for any of us to grow and mature, we have to continually learn. We must be involved in the school of life. In the same manner, to make the first connection with the higher energy source that I call the Voice, you have to reach a knowing, a special awareness. If successful you will be able to replicate more of the same over and over again. Somewhere in the process, you will make a giant leap, allowing you to continually connect with your higher self, your Voice. Shel Silverstein explains it another way in his poem “The Voice.” There is a voice inside of you That whispers all day long, "I feel this is right for me, I know that this is wrong." No teacher, preacher, parent, friend Or wise man can decide What's right for you---just listen to The voice that speaks inside. This book reveals a scientific and metaphysical enlightenment that is occurring throughout the world. The new ideas are gaining speed with every passing scientific discovery. Perhaps we should not try to label the progress, since it crosses religious and/or cultural ties. It is certainly not another religious movement. I like to think of it as a by-product of scientific breakthroughs that have taken metaphysical information and incorporated it into meaningful, logical, and observable realities. Lastly, the book lends itself to examination by book clubs. Study groups and book clubs stimulate the sharing of personal experiences, so the process will start you on a path of discussion. Exchanging ideas is natural. Once you discuss your memories in a group setting, others within that group begin to share their own memories. This composite of knowledge helps to open up all kinds of illumination about the metaphysical realm. Thus your studies refine your enlightenment and culminate in your ability to hear the Voice. Chapter One I heard a Voice “Please hear me. I need you. Please, I need your help!” To his surprise – he received an immediate answer! Harlan Fisher (eight years old) In the summer of 2004, traveling through New Mexico on our way home to Texas, my wife and I stopped at a motel in the Taos area for the night. While listening to the evening news on television, we heard about an eight-year-old boy named Anthony Sukto from Tacoma, Washington, who had been stabbed eight times by his father and left to die. The boy talked about hearing a Voice that told him what to do to save his life. I immediately identified with what Anthony was claiming about a Voice. Anthony’s father had just stabbed the boy’s mother to death in front of him, and afterwards the father told Anthony to get onto another bed, saying, “You’re next.” The father stabbed the boy six times in the face, neck, and chest, and twice in the liver. After his father departed and although Anthony was bleeding to death, he managed to call 911. When Kristin Woodrow, the emergency worker, an eight-year veteran dispatcher at the Law Enforcement Support Agency, responded, she heard the boy desperately but weakly crying, “Please, help me!” The following is an account of the rest of the incident as reported in ABC News Original Report – “Boy tells 911 Operator “My Daddy Killed Me.’” Anthony whispered to Woodrow, “My daddy killed me with a knife and I’m gone. Can you please send the army men or the ambulance?” She asked how old he was. “Eight,” he said, his voice suddenly more childlike. “Can you hurry?” “We’re on the way,” Woodrow said. Anthony gave an address and then suddenly hung up. Woodrow called back. Anthony explained to her: “My daddy killed me with a butcher knife.”
